SIL flocks registered for Health trait evaluations

Flocks must be registered before they can undertake genetic evaluations for some traits. Click on this link for details of Goal Trait Group Registration. You can search for flocks recording these and other traits using the SIL tool, FlockFinder.

Here are lists of flocks registered for the following genetic evaluations:

The lists include the flock number, breed, owner contact details and number of years the flock has been testing. Each list is sorted by breed and then area postcode. The number of years is set at the 31st of December. A flock with '0' years testing indicates the flock is in their first year of testing; a '1' indicates they have been testing for 1 year and are in their second year. Each list will be updated annually.

Tolerance to Facial Eczema - RamGuard

2016 list of SIL flocks registered for RamGuard (pdf file)

On this list, RamGuard Status Rating indicates the dose rate and length of time the flock has been RamGuard testing. Individual rams can also have a rating depending on what level of dosing their progeny have passed (e.g. the SIL-ACE Sire Leader Lists for FE Tolerance indexes). To find out more about these ratings click on these links.

Resilience to Internal Parasites

Breeders using the Resilience service are able to produce DRAGE & RGAIN breeding values on their reports.

 CARLA resistance to Internal Parasites

2016 list of SIL flocks using CARLA resistance to Internal Parasites (pdf file)

CARLA is a test of parasite resistance developed with Ovita funding. Breeders using CARLA saliva testing can get a SIL eBV on which to base selection for resistance to internal parasites. More information is available at the AgResearch CARLA test service site.

Note that CARLA genes are probably part of the set of genes confering WormFEC resistance. SIL cannot currently use WormFEC data and CARLA data in one single evaluation. So there is some "double-counting" if you use CARLA eBVs with FEC eBVs.

Bareness traits

2016 list of SIL flocks registered for Bareness trait (pdf file)

Bareness is a new trait that same SIL breeders have begun recording. The aim is to breed sheep with less or no wool around the breech or along the belly, that can get soiled and so require crutching, or lead to fly strike.

For more information on Bareness go to the Health traits page in the Technical Notes section.
